A St. Patrick’s Day Wedding in Boston

A date with character

Most couples avoid holidays. Maeve and Daniel leaned all the way in — a March 17th ceremony in South Boston, green velvet ribbon on every bouquet, and a brass band instead of a DJ. The whole day had a current of celebration running through it before we took a single frame.

Morning preparations were at Maeve’s family home, where three generations were getting ready in adjacent rooms. Those crowded, joyful hours produced some of our favourite documentary frames of the year.

The parade route

After the ceremony the couple had one request: portraits along the parade route, bagpipes and all. We walked with them for twenty minutes through streets lined with spectators, and strangers applauded every time the veil caught the wind.

It is the perfect example of why we scout on foot — the best backdrop was not a landmark but a side street with rain-washed cobblestones and a row of brownstones.

“Our guests still talk about the photos from the parade route. Strangers cheering, confetti everywhere — it’s all in there.” — Daniel

Reception notes

Dinner was served family-style, the speeches ran long in the best way, and the dance floor filled during the first song and never emptied. Low light, fast music, happy chaos — exactly the conditions our cameras love.

Our approach

City weddings move fast, so we work unobtrusively: long lenses during the ceremony, one flash for the dance floor, and no staged group that takes longer than three minutes. The result is a gallery that reads like the day felt — loud, warm and full.
